The kids, teachers and parent helpers of Te Aroha Primary School had an absolute blast out at Sheree & Stephen’s farm in Ohaupo. Getting up close with the cows was a highlight for many of the kids, as well as visiting the milking shed! There were plenty of laughs and memories made as the everyone explored the farm and got stuck into on-farm activities like milking cows and making butter. After a fun-filled and exciting day, with tummies full of delicious food and roasted marshmallows, everyone turned in to bed and to sleep in massive tee-pees pitched out in the paddock. A special trip the next day to our Fonterra factory in Morrinsville plus a visit from a Fonterra Tanker wrapped up a very action packed two days. Since getting back to school, the students have been wearing their gumboots daily and their backpacks are making the journey to school each day.
Room 6 of Gore Main School were blown away by their overnight Farmstay on the McKenzie Farm in Wyndham, saying that the experience was “everything we hoped it would be and more!” On-farm highlights for the kids included meeting and patting the cows, checking out the Fonterra tanker and roasting marshmallows after dinner. The giant tee-pee tent was a major hit with the kids and adults alike. Plenty of fun activities throughout the day kept everyone busy and entertained, both inside the tent and out in the paddock. Day 2 was just as exciting, with a visit to Fonterra’s impressive Edendale Site and a behind-the-scenes look at how some of our Fonterra products are manufactured. It was a fantastic couple of days for everyone involved and we’re so glad to know that “the children (and teachers and parents!) who attended the camp will treasure the experience forever”.
